Kerala – The Land of Backwaters & Resilience
Kerala, known as "God’s Own Country," is a state in southern India renowned for its lush landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and intricate network of backwaters. With a long coastline along the Arabian Sea and numerous rivers, Kerala has a deep historical connection to water, making it an ideal setting for the 5th International Conference on Amphibious Architecture, Design, and Engineering (ICAADE 2025).
The state is a global example of water-resilient living, where traditional architecture, sustainable practices, and modern engineering coexist to adapt to the challenges of monsoonal flooding. Kerala’s flood-prone regions, particularly in its low-lying areas, have witnessed increasing climate-related challenges, reinforcing the need for innovative solutions like amphibious and floating architecture.
Ernakulam – A Vibrant Urban Hub
Ernakulam, one of Kerala’s most developed districts, is home to Kochi, a dynamic port city blending historical charm with contemporary urbanization. As the commercial capital of Kerala, Ernakulam offers excellent connectivity via Cochin International Airport (COK), major railway stations, and well-developed road networks.
Kochi is also an emerging center for sustainable urban development and coastal resilience research, making it a fitting venue for ICAADE 2025. The region is dotted with historic ports, waterfront developments, and backwater systems, providing a living laboratory for discussions on amphibious and floating urbanism.
